### Myopia (short-sightedness)

Difficulty seeing distance clearly — road signs, cinema screens, the board at work. Often diagnosed in childhood; stabilises in the early 20s.

### Hyperopia (long-sightedness)

Near tasks blur first — reading, phone screens — especially after 40 when presbyopia adds. Distance may stay acceptable until later.

### Astigmatism

Cornea shaped more like a rugby ball than a football — blurred or ghosted vision at all distances. Often combined with myopia or hyperopia.

### Presbyopia

Arm's-length reading fails from the mid-40s — the natural lens stiffens. Reading glasses, varifocals, or lens replacement are the practical options.

### Cataracts

Clouding of the natural lens — dull colours, glare at night, frequent prescription changes. Surgery replaces the clouded lens with a clear artificial IOL.

- Monofocal, multifocal, or trifocal IOL choice
